SoulFood Sunday–Be Encouraged by John P. Kee

Hello APOOO family and friends and Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Just got off the phone with an older sorority sister–who had just spoken to her brother in Cali about Barack Obama.  She is so passionate about Obama and this upcoming election that her joy overfloweth.  Not only is she encouraging folks with her words, but she is also working hard on the campaign trail.  Everyone who comes into her path feels her energy and TRUST you do not walk away without getting CAUGHT UP…caught up for something good that it is.  My soror remembers the Jim Crow laws, segregation (even tho’ she was raised up North), the Civil Rights movement, marching on Washington, the riots of 1968, doors being open in corporate America…but there is one door that still remains closed to us.  She wants to see that door opened during her lifetime…and she is doing her part…for her it is about more than simple rhetoric or feel good moments.  Yes, she is emotional about this election…but unlike many, she is also invested and committed…and she is supporting Obama and encouraging others…what about YOU?

Need a little encouragement today?  Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone to sow seeds in someone else’s ministry in order to shake off our own weights and concerns. Listen to John P. Kee and be encouraged to help someone else today.

TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE:  Isaiah 41:10 Fear not; for I am with you. Be not dismayed; for I am your God. I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.

  1. I met Michael Kenneth Williams, better known to many as “Omar” from the HBO series, “The Wire” today and we had lunch at a local soul food joint in Gary. He and a couple of my friends have been working with him campaigning for Obama and he was visiting local churches encouraging people to register. How inspired is this guy???

He told me that the last election he participated in was when Bill Clinton ran for President 15 years ago. He was told by some people that Barack was a fan of The Wire and Omar was his all time favorite character on the show. Weeks later(during the start of the May primary) he got the chance to meet Barack in Harrisburg Pa. After Barack finished speaking, he went backstage and one of his advisors told him Michael K. Williams was backstage waiting to meet… Michael told me Barack went straight South Side brother screaming, OMAR’S HERE???!!! WHERE HE AT??? WHERE HE AT??!!! Michael said when Barack Obama snatched him into a brotherly hug and raved about the character Omar, he was speechless the entire time and just let the man hug him, lol!
But Michael’s been visiting the local projects here and got folks registered, signing up and getting involved and they are not pretending either…I have seen these residents walk up to people with forms asking if they are a registered voter, etc.
