Someone in my family is going to get murderized ( yes- another word I created). I can’t find my Time Life Soulful Christmas cds. I have torn this house upside down looking for them, as well as my Boyz II Men Christmas Interpretations. Umm hmm. Somebody is going down for messing with my holiday spirit.
I did go online and get Boyz II Men from iTunes, but I’ll have to purchase the Soulful Christmas from the website. So, to turn this from a rant into something more positive, today you get a list of my Top Ten Christmas/Holiday Songs.
1. Boyz II Men Christmas Interpretations- the ENTIRE cd. The holidays don’t start for me until I play this in its entirety.
2. Gee Whiz It’s Christmas by Carla Thomas. It’s the first Christmas song that Diva in Training learned. Still her favorite at the age of 13.
3. This Christmas by Donny Hathaway. CLASSIC!!!!!
4. Merry Christmas Baby by Otis Redding. My mother’s face lights up every time she hears it.
5. Baby It’s Cold Outside by Vanessa Williams. I love her version. Fun and jazzy.
6. Bethlehem Tonight by Brian McKnight (featuring Michael Sembello). It just flows through me.
7. My Favorite Things by Luther Vandross. ‘Cause it’s Luther.
8. Santa Claus is Coming to Town by the Jackson Five. Need I say more?
9. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by the Stylistics. I just remember that the first time I heard this I thought it was so cool. Not stuffy or stoic at all.
10. Back Door Santa by Clarence Carter. Even Santa needs to be naughty every now and then.
There are many, many more songs that I love, but I would rather hear from you guys.
What is your favorite holiday song and what artist does it the best?

Djuanna I loved your list!
As far as some of my favorite Christmas music…hands down Silent Night by the Temptations…but I also love some Vanessa Williams, Mariah Carey and Re-Re (Aretha…the one and only…hehe).
Ok, your list is pretty similar to what mine would be with This Christmas by Donna Hathaway being my all-time favorite Christmas song. But I will add The Temptations Christmas album. I never thougth I would say this, but I realize that our family Christmas tradition includes Silent Night and Rudolph playing in the background.
The only xmas cd I listen to is Alex O’Neal’s
I can’t believe I left The Temptations off the list! OHMIGOODNESS! My mother would shoot me. LOL. That’s why I need my Soulful Christmas cd. Sigh.
@Linda- Alexander O’Neal! Sleigh Ride! Heeeeeeyyyyyyy!!!!!!! LOL

Christmas music, oh yeah, I have lots of favorites! Of course, Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” is near the top of my list. I also enjoy Charles Brown’s version of “Merry Christmas, Baby” (it’s real bluesy and reminds me of home). But my favorite Christmas song is, “I Know My Redeemer Liveth” sung by Tevin Campbell on a cd called “Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration.”
I also enjoy a couple of jazz Christmas cds–Boney James’ “Funky Christmas” and Grover Washington’s “Breath of Heaven.”

Lori, oh yeah bring on Boney and Grover Washington…look their Christmas sounds.
I love the original Baby It’s Cold Outside. I feel in love with that song from an episode of A Different World.
I love christmas music Period. Now, I have heard the worst Christmas music and that would have to be Death Row Christmas. A friend had it and ummm…well……it really did not put me in the spirit at all.
Great list.
Here are some of my favorites: Silent Night by The Temptations, What Do the Lonely Do at Christmas, O Holy Night, Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Jackson 5)

I love Vanessa Williams’ Baby Its Cold Outside, along with Donny Hathaway’s This Christmas, Luther Vandross (and Vanessa Williams) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. And yes, I must confess ole country Bobby Helms Jingle Bell Rock and Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
Shelia I like the Jackson’s version of Santa is Coming to Town also and I Saw Momma Kissing Santa…hehe.
Djuanna, you have picked a lot of my favorites, I really like “Every Christmas” by Luther Vandross and of course Jingle Bell Rap by Kurtis Blow and Christmas in Hollis Queens by Run DMC.
Hey, hey, hey. Love the list. I second This Christmas by the Whispers but Chris Brown’s version ain’t too bad. Of course, there is no Christmas without the Temps singing Silent Night and Eartha Kitt singing Santa Baby. I also like Vanessa Williams’ CD.

Al Jurreau has a new Christmas CD. They played the sampler on KKSF. I am going to listen to the samplers on some of the ones mentioned and decided what Christmas music I am going to buy.
