How many times did something happen and it could have happened sooner or it was so heartbreaking, you wished someone would have told you? Souls of My Young Sisters: Young Women Break Their Silence with Personal Stories That Will Change Your Life by Dawn Marie Daniels and Candace Sandy is a book filled with life lessons to assist in those moments of I wish someone had told me. Each one of these stories could have easily been any young woman’s story.

As I read, I told myself to take notes, but that meant I had to pause between each essay and I did not want to. I could see some of my life experiences, written on the page for all to see.  “Little Women” is the first essay in the book and one of many I found myself nodding in agreement because I understood and could relate.  Then there were stories I remembered from television such as “Thanksgiving Day” and “Luckier Than Most.” One was about a groom, being gunned down by the police the morning of his wedding; the other was about a young lady living her life since birth with HIV/AIDS. Their stories touched my heart many times before and retouched me yet again.

I could go on and on about the various stories, written by women from different walks of life, but I will not. I will say that aside from handing a young adult female a Bible on their way to college or on their own, parents should include a copy of Souls of My Young Sisters: Young Women Break Their Silence with Personal Stories That Will Change Your Life. I highly recommend this book to females of all ages.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes.
