In her debut novel, Miriam Ezeh introduces readers to Peace Udomon. Peace is a single, hardworking young woman who is trying to come to terms with the death of her parents. As a promise to her parents, Peace struggles to raise her teenage brother and to keep him from getting involved in the controversy between two villages in Africa. When seeking assistance from her godparents did not help, she turned to an outsider, John Williams. John was a doctor from the US who had recently returned to the homeland of his deceased mother. His assistance and faith eventually became life dependant for Peace.
Ezeh has given readers a wonderful story of love, faith and strength. The focal point of the story was on Peace’s unconditional love for God and her family. She depended on her growing faith in John to help her get through the tragic war. However, the story fell short because it left out important details regarding the location of the villages, the war and its origin. Despite what it lacked, I found the story enjoyable.
