Stretched but not Broken” chronicles the story of Mia Hall and her dysfunctional family. Mia, raped at the tender age of five, grew up with a mother that was emotionally unavailable because she suffered from depression. A step-father that was emotionally as well as physically abusive to her and her siblings. She also had and older sister, Karen, that is bi-polar and abuses her children. Her younger sister, Sasha, is just so fed up with all the chaos within the family and she is determined to get out by joining the ROTC and going into the army. When Mia’s sister, Karen, takes things to far involving her children, everyone’s life is flipped upside down.
This was a fast paced and refreshing read. The writing just flowed so naturally. I am sure you can see someone you know in one of these characters, the story was so raw and real, makes me wonder if this wast based on a true story. If so, I really applaud the author for overcoming such huge obstacles. In my opinion, this is one of those books that everyone should read.
