Sugar Plum Ballerinas by Whoopi Goldberg

Wow…look what I came across…Whoopi Goldberg has a children’s book series for ages 9-12.  Was anyone aware of this?  The first book in the series is Plum Fantastic.  Product Description is below…but hmmm is it just me…or does the cover look a bit juvenile for ages 9-12?  Honestly, I thought it was a book for younger ages, until I saw it was 160 pages…but the price point is great…only $4.99!  At that price, and given that I like Whoopi Goldberg, I hope the series does well.  So spread the word, good peoples!

Alexandrea Petrakova Johnson does not want to be a beautiful ballerina, and she does not want to leave her friends in Apple Creek. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop her ballet-crazy mother from moving them to Harlem, or from enrolling Al at the Nutcracker School of Ballet.

Life is hard when you’re the new ballerina on the block, and it’s even harder when you’re chosen to be the Sugar Plum Fairy in the school recital! Not only is Al a terrible dancer, but she’s also got a rotten case of stage fright! Al’s ballet classmates are going to have to use all the plum power they’ve got to coach this scary fairy!

    1. She has been talking about this book on the view. I too thought it was for a younger group of kids because both Sherri and Elizabeth talked about reading it to their children. Sounds like a good book. I may pick it up for my goddaughter’s birthday on Friday.

    2. I knew it was out there. like Jeanette I heard about it on The View. Since I don’t have any young girls I won’t get it for my household, but I will purchase it for my nieces. My daughter is 12 but she reads high school level books. I don’t want her taking a step back.

    3. Heard about it – thought it was for a younger crowd too. Looking forward to buying it – my three girls love anything ballerina related

    5. I’d love to hear from someone who has read this (or leafed thru it at the store). Like Jennifer’s daughter, my 12 yr old reads more advanced texts, but it might make a good read-aloud for my 6 yr old (especially since it features ballerinas!)
