What was your favorite book and why?
House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper was the APOOO October BOM and my favorite book of the month. I enjoyed reading this memoir/coming-of-age story about Helene Cooper as well as about the Liberian experience and another culture. Those who enjoy reading outside of the box storylines will enjoy this one.
What was your least favorite book? Why?
Dying for Revenge by Eric Jerome Dickey. Fans of the Gideon tales (Sleeping with Strangers, Waking with Enemies) will enjoy this book because it’s a continuation of that series. Unfortunately, I forgot the small print and didn’t realize that it was part of that series. While the book wasn’t a total waste of time…it just wasn’t what I was expecting…and the question was…What was your least favorite book…unfortunately that was the one. But, don’t let my view assuage you, as I’m just one lonely opinion…you decide. Read it for yourself. BTW, the APOOO review from Angelia will be coming up shortly and she gave Dying for Revenge 4 stars (out of 5).

I didn’t have much time for reading because of a project I’m working on, but I read – A Sticky Situation by Kiki Swinson, Kissed by the Devil by Dashawn Taylor and a manuscript.
What was your favorite book and why?
I don’t have one because none of them were stand outs.
What was your least favorite book? Why?
A Sticky Situation. Too many situations in the book didn’t make sense. Unbelievable. Lack of character development. And me just being tired of stupid female characters!
What books do you plan to read during the month of November?
Finish Officer Down by Mo Shines, Gangsta Bitch by Sonny F. Black, Strawberry Mansion by Julia Press Simmons and Chante’s Song by Donneil Jackson.

It looks like you had a great October and have an even more wonderful November ahead of you. I need to get my books organized for this month. I’m determined to break my November rut. For the past several years, I’ve consistently fallen into a sort of slump in November. THis year will be different if I have my way about it. Have a great week!

Ms. Toni sorry to hear that October wasn’t a good reading month for you. Hope that November treats you better.
Literary Feline I hear you about November…for some reason it can also be a slump month for me…but so far I’m a 1.5 books in and it’s only Day 2.
Of Blood and Sorrow by Valerie Wilson Wesley – I didn’t realize this book was out yet.I’m late.
I’ve read the following on your list and would recommend them:
You Gotta Sin to Get Saved by JD Mason
Can I Get a Witness by Reshonda Tate Billingsley
Too Little Too Late by Victoria Christopher Murray
Up Pops the Devil by Angela Benson

October reads:
For All We Know by Sandra Kitt
House of Secrets by Viola M. Walker
A Gentleman’s Offer by Dara Girard
Single Sashimi by Camy Tang
Riven by Jerry Jenkins
A Heart for the Dropped Stiches by Janet Tronstad
The Widow by Carla Neggers
A Passion Most Pure by Julie Lessman
Risking Her Heart by Liz Allison and Wendy Etherington
Out of Her Hands by Megan DiMaria
Although I enjoyed a number of these books, I’d have to say my favorite was Riven by Jerry Jenkins. I love books that both entertain me and provoke me to thought about new issues or longheld beliefs. Riven did both of those.
It took me two attempts to read House of Secrets so, although the story picked up, I’d say that was my least favorite. A lot less backstory in the beginning would have made it more enjoyable.
I never know what I’m going to be reading in advance. It’s in part based on what I receive for review, in part what’s in my TBR pile, and in part on what I have a “taste” for.
