What was your favorite book and why?
Testimony by Anita Shreve.  I loved the storyline; theme.  It was one of the most unique, creatively crafted storylines that I have read this year.  From start to finish this book held my attention.  I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next.  A storyline centered around sexual assault, three boys/one underage girl at an elite, private school in New England made for a juicy, tell-all, sensational tabloid plot. One act, one moment in time affected so many lives, including school administrators, students, parents and a high school basketball team.   I felt like I was a fly-on-the wall while reading this book was told successfully in first and third person POV as well as one second person POV.  I highly recommend this read to others who desire to read a compelling and engrossing tale with multiple point-of-views.

What was your least favorite book? Why?
It was a toss up between Whiskey Road, House and Home and Rhythms of Grace.  While they weren’t the worst books I’ve ever read and they weren’t really bad books, actually there are a number of folks who really enjoyed these books, they just didn’t hold my interest and it was impossible for me to read any of them in one sitting…or to feel like I needed to.

  1. Gather Together in My Name was the last book I read…I think, lol! It was a great book and while I almost guessed the outcome, I was still thrown off – which I like about a lot a books I read.

Hopefully this week I will get to buy a couple more books including Eric Jerome Dickey’s latest and Midnight…I have to replace my copy of Coldest WInter because someone took it out of my room and I have not seen it since…which is making me stingy with loaning books out!
I am going to browse through the non-fiction areas this time too…I am leaning more and more in that area now than I’ve ever did.

  2. Hey Lisa I recommend the following non-fiction books:
God Gave Me Some Bad Advice by Byron Harmon
The Naked Truth by Marvelyn Brown

  3. Yeah The Naked Truth I do plan on getting because a friend told me about this young lady and her story.

I will also check out your second recommendation :-)

  4. Lisa, it is truly the Naked Truth I was honestly shocked at how ‘ignorant’ young folks today still are about HIV/AIDS…it’s really sad, shocking and eye-opening.

  5. PS–If I go to the hospital and the doctor says ‘you have pneumonia’ and I’m in my early teens/20s…single…am sexually active with multiple partners…the first thing I’m going to ask for is a HIV/AIDS test!

  6. Definitely!
I walked away from a guy who admitted that he has two side chicks. he is 32 and the chicks are 25 and 29. I already get tested. and when he thought I would still consider being with him I told him to grow the hell up!

  7. Share with us the books you read during the month.
    Officer Down – Mo Shines
    Sinful Desires – Ty Goode
    Chante’s Song – Donneil D. Jackson
Desperate Hoodwives – Mink & Diamond
Gangsta Bitch – Sonny F. Black
Dirty Little Angel – Erica Hilton

What was your favorite book and why? Chante’s Song. Full of drama and plenty of laughs.

What was your least favorite book? Why? It was a good month. Enjoyed them all.

What books do you plan to read next month? Hopefully… finish Eva II First Lady of Sin (Storm), Dying for Revenge (EJD), A Drug Dealer’s Dream (Tremayne Johnson) and A Deal with Death (Endy).

Ms. Toni´s last blog post..OOSA Online Book Club gave 4 stars to: Desperate Hoodwives

  8. Cold Hearted by Beverly Barton
Trouble In My Way by Michelle Simpson
    Bachelor Degree by Judith Marks-White
The Death and Life of Gabriel Phillips by Stephen Baldwin
The Journey Home by Linda Ford
    Collateral Damage by Fern Michaels
    Through the Storm: A Family’s
    Frontier Courtship by Valerie Hansen

Favorite: Trouble In My Way. Just the kind of book I wish I’d had as a teenager trying to grow in my faith.

Least Favorite: Collateral Damage. Although it’s a good story, it’s clearly part of a series and I kept feeling like I would enjoy it more had I read the other books first.

For December: Dark Pursuit by Brandilyn Collins, Murder on the Down Low by Pamela Samuels-Young, Cutting Loose by Nadine Dajani, Pecking Order by Omar Tyree, Love Finds You In Snowball, Arkansas by Sandie Bricker
