Sweet Dreams by Nikkea Smithers is an enduring story. The characters are very realistic. Their struggles of economic conditions, depression, and hardships of physical abuse and sexual abuse are realistic. This is a key point which pulls in the reader and endears them to the story. The poetry that the author featured in this book was dynamite! It really put the story into perspective in a way that readers can understand and empathize with. The editing errors in this book were a bit challenging to overlook. If the chinks created by the errors were knocked out and corrected, the story would have had a smoother flow. In saying that, the story is still interesting and captivating enough to recommend.
