Have you ever watched a movie and found yourself doing whoops and hollers at the screen? Well, that is the best way to describe what I felt as I read Swerve by Michelle McGriff. The book began action-packed and ended the same way. By the time I was done reading, I wanted to ride on a motorcycle just for the rush.
What should have been a normal day for Romia Smith turned into a life-changing chain of events. She was a high-heeled, leather wearing, skilled in the martial arts, and motorcycle riding bad-to-the-bone chick. The symbol of the Phoenix she has everywhere represents more than her strength. On that day someone frames her for the death of a man she does not even know and the worst part is…she is a cop. However, as the pieces began to fall into place, Romia was not sure about what was real and what was a lie. Her instincts told her to trust no one. Will her life ever be normal again? Or would she rise up out of the ashes like a Phoenix into a new and exciting life?
Keliegh, Romia’s ex-partner, cannot believe what Romia is being accused of. He was there and he wants answers as much as the people around him want to catch Romia. No one would stop until they find Romia or the answers to their questions. What will they find first?
If someone were to ask me what genre Swerve falls into, I would have to say Ms. McGriff has created a multifaceted story. I could not stick it in one genre when readers of several different genres could easily love it. There was an air of mystery around all the characters, even some of the secondary ones. Since I read an advance reader copy, I hope that all the errors were caught and corrected in the final draft. I would really love to see this book as a movie. I recommend this book to readers who would like to read something different, yet very exciting.
