TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:
-
Grab your current read.
-
Let the book fall open to a random page.
-
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12. I’m flexible…if you want to share several lines, please feel free to do so.
-
You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
-
Please avoid spoilers!
My teaser sentences for today:
‘You’re not afraid to try something new.’ An image came to Julian’s of Carter festering on something nauseous in a faraway land (bugs? grasshoppers? Carter had sent photos) and of Julian’s last trip to San Francisco, when Carter had taken him to a restaurant and attempted, unsuccessfully, to get him to eat brains. ‘Try everything at least once,’ Carter liked to say. A few years ago, scientists had discovered a novelty-seeking game, and when Julian told Carter about it, Carter said, ‘That’s me.’
Matrimony by Joshua Henkin, page 143

I took Cannon Street toward Bank, hiked across the bridge toward London Bridge tube, walked Borough High Street, and stopped in front of a row of flats and businesses. I had died inside one of those rooms. I wasn’t sure which building, but I had met Death in one of those rooms. Standing there haunted me. But I had to face that fear. That other stress. There was a lot in London I had to face.

For me this was a crazy experiment. Just as we got wound up, it was all over. “It’s a wrap”, Tyriq announced. The ball players who were still standing, blood was pumping and hearts were still racing. Our eyes were wide open as we stayed on the floor staring at one another and wandering what was next. My sweat was flowing into my blue terry-cloth headband.

“How did you get in?” Angel asked placing her hand across her racing heart. “What are you doing here?” Damien’s dark expression didn’t change. “I came by to see you.” He slowly moved away from the open window. She took another step back. “But why did you have to break in?” His lips transformed into a bemused grin. “I don’t have a key.”

What I wished was that she could see and know where I had been before I had found her. She needed to know the power of options, what the availability of choice signified, the freedom of making a mistake and correcting it yourself, rather than having others decide the proper remedy for you. But we could not communicate.
