Thirteen Things That Made Me Go Hmmmm Today

So much seems to be going on right now…can we get off the roller coaster…chill…take a moment from the madness?

Seems folks need other things to distract them…including someone else’s misery…sigh.

I have a great work group…and even tho’ it includes six women and one lone male…for the most part we all get along well…until today.

As I was driving home I was thinking about the workplace, the economy, whether or not my daughter managed to make dinner without burning it…lol…and a few things that made me go hmmm today.

Here’s what I crossed my mind…

  1. The Octuplet mom got more than she bargained for.  She might have wanted 15 minutes of fame and a few million to go with it…but there is so way I would want to be her for anything in the world.  14 kids is more than a notion…but not being able to leave home without the paparazzi all up in your face and your kids faces…and no bodyguard to boot…whew who would want to live like that.
  2. I know we have freedom of speech…but I think that somethings should be off limits.  Including cartoons that portray our Presidents in a negative, racist, terroristic manner.  All Presidents…including Dubya (heck no I didn’t vote for him)…should be accorded a level of respect while they’re in the office and somethings should not be allowed.  Respect begins at home…maybe if Americans started respected each other more…we would be considered rude, arrogant, elitist when we’re travelling abroad.  And respect can begin with how we treat our Presidents…ALL OF THEM…the good, the bad and the ugly.
  3. Read an article today that said more than 50% of us were concerned about losing our jobs this year. I pray it’s only a concern and NOT A reality.
  4. Lifting a girlfriend up in prayer–her brother knocked on her door Sunday morning after driving too many miles to count right now…from TX with his wife and five kids.  He’s been unemployed since August 2008…and had no choice but to reach out for a lifeline.  He still doesn’t have the job of his choice…but he’s working at the local McDonald’s in the meantime.  As my girlfriend said, ‘one day at a time and that’s what family is for.  Back during the Great Depression there weren’t any shelters…families pulled together and took care of each other.’  Words to live by.  I admire and respect my girlfriend for stepping up to the plate and helping out her brother and his family.
  5. Drama in the work[place…I love my work group.  For the most part, we’re a fun-loving group.  We enjoy hanging out with each other and joking around…but sometimes we GO TOO FAR…as we found out last night.  Loose lips sink trips.  Last night someone said something that offended another team member and now they’re not speaking.  Mind you…they’re GOOD FRIENDS.  I know this will pass…but I hope it’s soon…and without too much fall out.
  6. My son is taking the SAT again next month.  He did well the first time but he wants to boost his score.  Hmmm I haven’t seen him studying one iota…but he things he can boost his score by 200 points because he has another year of coursework under his belt.  I hope he’s right.
  7. My son believes that hubby and I should pay for him to go to the prom.  Why?  When did the prom become a necessity?  Told him if he wants to go he needs to get a job or do some chores to earn money.  He still hasn’t done either; guess he doesn’t want to go to the prom.
  8. On the Today Show yesterday, they shared five signs of heart disease for men.  My husband has four of the five.  Glad our primary care physician scheduled him for a stress test this week.  Now she told hubby she was surprised that he didn’t give her a hard time about it.  WTF…she’s made another comment to my husband that I thought was off-base…I asked him did he ask her if she was confusing him with someone else?  If a doctor recommends a stress test…and it’s something to help you…why would you give her back talk?
  9. I missed The View today…what happened?  Oh I heard that John McCain has declined to appear on the View again…he won’t be missed by me.  LOL.
  10. Snoop has a new show titled Dog After Dark.  I don’t plan to watch it but it did make me go hmmmm when I heard the announcement.
  11. I received a book order from amazon today.  Three books in the box…but no peanuts, bubble wrap, shrink wrap or NOTHING.  When did amazon stop protecting books in the box.  Is this a sign of the times.
  12. I saw a local play last night that was directed by my press aide and one of the stars in the play was an attorney that I work with.  Another co-worker told us that the play wasn’t very good and that our co-worker was a mess/horrible.  I adjusted my expectations to expect the worst…and hope for the best.  Glad I didn’t listen to our co-worker to the point of staying home as the play was quite entertaining and the attorney/co-worker was a hoot.
  13. If you said you didn’t want the money…why did you change your mind?  It never ceases to amaze me how politicians lack scruples or balls.  Several Republican governors said that they wouldn’t take any money from the stimulus plan for their states.  Seems too of them have changed their minds…Rick Perry(Governor of TX) and Mark Sanford (Governor of SC)…now they’re on board but still against the package.  Well, if you’re that against it, why are you taking the money?  If Obama’s package is so terrible…why haven’t you come up with your own plan…to KEEP YOUR STATE FROM GOING UNDER?  It’s easy to complain about what’s wrong and how horrible a job you believe Obama is doing…but what creative idea have you come up with lately for your state? Nothing…hmmm guess you’re eating crow and taking the money.  Don’t let the door hit you where the good lawd split you…too bad you weren’t able to grow a pair of b&lls and actually JUST SAY NO…and BE ABOUT IT.

  1. I so agree with 13. You have a rough day but I can make you feel better about yours if I tell you about mines..lol I will one day as its too tough to talk about..right now

  2. Hey Linda…it wasn’t really rough per se…just pensive…and I pray that all will work out for you.

  3. Hi Yas -

As for #11 – I have been receiving packages from Amazon without the bubble pack, peanuts for a little white now. Every now and agin I will get one with bubble pack – do not know if the packaging depends on the distribution site.

But it is also helpling to save the environment as less stuff to go to the landfill

  4. Agree with being environment friendly…but I think they’re cutting cost to prop up their financial statements…amazon ain’t that environment friendly…I think it does depend on the distribution system.

  5. 1. I have said before that whatever plan the Oct. Mom had backfired. They are calling her the most hated mom in America.
    6. I don’t know about the not studying part, but that is what I was told in school. You take it once jr year and at least one more time in sr year. That’s supposed to increase your score.

    7. As for the prom, he should at least contribute. All that stuff you have to pay for sr year really adds up.

  6. Nicole…it’s sad that so many folks are hatin’ on this women…I see it as wasted energy.

Son says…’he’s got this’…as the mom I just have to have faith as he knows the deal.

Prom…now he’s talking about not going this year…it’s his junior year so he still has next year…lol.

  7. Some people are grating on my nerves with the blatant disrespect they are showing our new Pres. in the media. The Post should not have ever ran that cartoon. It don’t take a rocket scientist to know that was a racist caption.

Don’t get me started on the ignorance of the Octuplet mom. I feel sorry for the kids. The doctor needs his license revoked.

I missed the View yesterday. I had errands to run so they weren’t playing in the background like they normally do.

My governor is one of those governors opting not to take the money. Newsflash: We need it because there’s a hiring freeze — no new state government positions available due to the freeze.
Another newsflash. The republican party is grooming my governor to be their pres. candidate…you can say you heard it here.

  8. The Octs mom…I have to say after sitting down and watching a special on her last week(20/20 maybe) she is a real piece of work….

prom…I was spoiled and did not pay for mine…Ericka paid for her pictures, she had a job, but my mom got her dress and senior year her friend drove the 4 girls in the dad’s Navigator so we had no limo bills

  9. Lashonda my son thinks he should be spoiled also…if we weren’t in a Great Recession I would…lol. And the Octs mom…she needs prayer…plenty of them.

  10. I have also been getting “unprotected” books from Amazon.com. But, of course your son expects you to pay for the prom. My nephew doesn’t even want to go. The girls have been hinting but he’s not biting.

  11. I honestly hope that those Republican governors who are declining the stimulus money are voted out of office. They are putting party loyalty over the needs of the people of their state. It should all backfire on them politically.

As for the repulsive cartoon that the NY Post ran, it all means to me that the more things change the more they stay the same. Who in this world does not know that that was racist? The cartoonist and the editor knew what the message was and didn’t care. No matter the fact that Obama is President many people still see him as just another negro. If they didn’t they wouldn’t have ran that cartoon. You can make a political point ablut the stimulus bill without the use of police killing a chimp.
