Thug Politics by Dutch stays true to the game with a great blend of thugging on all levels. Maurice ‘Money Mo’ Sebastian learns early in life what survival of the fittest means. With his vicious team of players, spearheaded by Bruiser and Mel Kwon, there is nothing they could not accomplish on the streets of Newark. Promoting parties can only go so far for Money Mo though. Especially since he has caviar dreams yet is only making fish stick money. But he has a plan; Money Mo for Mayor of Newark. And what constituent does not want a young, educated, and handsome black man as their leader when everybody can eat lovely under his reign? Throw in a beautiful hip-hop vixen by his side and power couple is not a strong enough phrase to describe their union, though explosive is. Thug Politics shows it is all about what and who you know, but what happens when greed and corruption rears his ugly head? And what happens when the street players, politicians, clergymen, and law enforcement officials all struggle for validation? And, for real, can Money Mo pull off making Newark, NJ a gangster’s utopia?

Dutch definitely had my attention from the first minute I cracked open Thug Politics. Not only is it a timely piece, in the wake of an African American presidential candidate and the issues surrounding Kwame Kilpatrick, former mayor of Detroit, but it gave a healthy dose of political corruption that I am not entirely sure is unrealistic. The editing and typesetting was off, but the cover was hot and the plot was excellent. I loved the characters and each had his/her distinct voice and personality. I recommend Thug Politics to all street-lit fans. This is definitely a classic novel.

  1. I love the first line of the review …true to the game. I will have to pick this up. I am currently reading a copy of True to the Game III for review and let me just say, it is not in the same fashion of the 1st 2 boks. I am having a really hard time getting through it. Coming from EO, NJ..which is right next to Newark, I am looking forward to reading this book.
