Thirteen Things about Today! This year has been a roller-coaster year and today was no different, except it had a slight silver lining.
- Today was the best of days.
- Today was the worst of days.
- There was good news.
- I wasn’t laid off.
- There was bad news.
- The raise I was expecting in January won’t materialize.
- As with 40 some other states, our state is also experiencing a budget crisis.
- Actually there’s so much red it’s hemorrhaging.
- By the end of the fiscal year, we could be almost 2 Billion dollars in the hole. Gulp.
- By withholding raises, from non-union employees, the state hopes to save $14.3 million dollars.
- Seems sort of paltry given that we’re anticipating a shortfall in the billions.
- I guess it’s a symbolic gesture.
- And, even tho’ we don’t know when we will ever receive raises again, hubby and I both still have jobs. We have our health, our families, our home, some savings/investments. But, why do I feel that I need more?

It’s human nature to want more. With the entire country in such a sad state, now is the time to count our blessings. All good things come to those who wait. Happy T13!

Hopefully when the economy goes up, you’ll get your raise, till then it’s good to look at the bright side of things, like you are doing now.

I am happy we still have a roof over our heads and food to eat. I can’t ask for anything more because I didn’t put anything down or ask anyone to hold some stuff for me, so I am content with the things I have at this moment in time.

I think the worst thing is getting depressed about life. Recessions happen. We survive. Maybe today’s cushioned life-style makes things worse. Up until this specific downturn, financial ups and downs were considered historically cyclical. It was a part of life. They usually went on a 30 or so year cycle.
I have family who lost everything in 1893 or so and 1929. Lives are destroyed, but people survive.
You are doing a great job with this blog. Keep it up!

You feel that way because you have been conditioned to be upwardly mobile, getting better, richer and this economy is a wrinkle in your perfect plan. It is hard to unthink those plans.

We get used to a certain lifestyle, and it is hard to go backwards. Not getting a raise is preferable to getting a pay cut. Rest in God and let Him supply your needs.

It’s a cold, scary world out there, isn’t it? It’s hard to feel secure in either finances or employment. Yet every day does have it’s bright moments. Thanks for reminding us to look for the silver lining, and for visiting my TT.

These are the times when we really need to get some perspective. Even as bad as things seem to be getting we are still way better off thatn most of the world. I do understand though, my husband has been forced into retiring (at 48) in January and his income will be literally cut in half. God has been providing though – sometimes in interesting and mysterious ways.

There seems to be a balance of good and bad in every day and in every life. Sometimes it’s like we are surfing, just trying to keep our balance between the peaks and crashes.
(((HUGS))) Thinking and praying for you.
