Thirteen Favorite Children’s Halloween Costumes–Here in Central Pensatucky we celebrate Halloween on the last Thursday of the month. Yeah…last Thursday and not the actual date…go figure. There is a reason but no one remembers why…it probably has something to do with High School sports…football is big in this neck of the woods…lol. So, that said, I’m expected to be greeted by the following characters tomorrow…and yes they will have to do a trick in order to get a treat…hehe.
- Princess
- Witch
- Hannah Montana (surprise, surprise)
- Spider Man
- Pirate
- Star Wars Character
- Pumpkin
- Batman
- Disney Princess (Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty…yea all the girls)
- Athlete
- Ghost (growing up I was probably a ghost every other year because it was a cheap costume…lol)
- Action/Super Hero (Hmmm who else beside Batman and Spider Man…or yeah Robin…lol)
- Dora the Explorer
…what no Harry Potter (oh wait he didn’t have a movie this year), no Joker, no Dracula, no clown, and where is the Pea-pod for the very, little, tiny ones who have no clue as to what Halloween is…lol. Click on the source below to check out other favorites for 2008 as well as what adult costumes are popular.

I didn’t dress up for Halloween when growing up. There was three times as an adult when I did get dressed up. One year when I was pregnant with my second child I was a pregnant angel, halo and all. Then another time when I was pregnant with my youngest I was a pumpkin. And then lastly I was a white bunny rabbit with a bushy tail and ears.
My kids don’t get dressed up either. My daughter was once Dora the Explorer and my middle child was a dragon. But that is it. We are not big on Halloween at all.

Dressing while you were pregnant sounded like a hoot…Halloween is big in my neck of the woods…folks go all out with decorations…we only do pumpkins but the kids get very creative with them…actually I should say Lauren does…and they still dress up for Halloween. Paul will be Slack (from Guns and Roses)…Lauren is going to be a nerd.
You’re right! Wee ones are always dressed as Peapods or Lady Bugs! My most vivid Halloween memory, here in Chicagoland where it gets very chilly at night, is that I always had to wear a coat over my costume. So most years I trick-or-treated as Little Girl in Heavy Coat.

Gal…lol about little girl in heavy coat…I was raised in FL…it was still warm in October…so I didn’t have that problem.
The first time I got dressed up pregnant was because my sister-in-law and I decided to give a Halloween party. Not so smart when You are pregnant and tired. But it was fun. The second time was because everyone else at work was dressing up and they begged me to get dressed. So I did.
I guess part5 of our problem is people don’t egt to into it where I live. My church throws a big October Fest; where the kids can get on rides and get candy afterward for an entry fee of $5 a person. So we do that when it isn’t too cold.

Understandable…and your a good sport getting dressed up while you were pregnant…I did but I was never showing in October because my kids were spring babies…so I was generally only about 2 or 3 months…and folks couldn’t tell…
Xavier was a Spring baby (child #2) and Elijah was a winter baby (child #3) so he made for a very big pumpkin. lol.

I’ve never dressed for Halloween, but I think I’d have enjoyed going as a pirate best of all!

Growing up, what characters did you dress up as for Halloween?
I was “I dream of Jeannie” once(that was when all costumes were plastic) A witch and a clown(My mom sews and made them for me) A football player in High School at my Girl Scouts party, a speed bump as an adult(Yellow shirts with tire marks on them) There were 3 of us and we actually laid on the floor at work together so they could take our picture.
Will you be dressing up this year? If so, as what character? I am not.
If you have kids, will they be celebrating Halloween? If so, what costume will they wear?
My husband has a scary clown mask, my daughter will be snow white and my son will be Jason
i’ve always wanted to dress up like a witch…Hehehe.
My niece that was born in August is going to be a pumpkin. The girl who does the waxing at my hairdresser’s daughter who is almost six months is going to be a giraffe. The best costume is when Rebecca was in preschool and she wanted to be a pink cake and I made the costume out of a cardbord box and painted it up and she won second prize in a contest. funny, I can’t remember what I what costumes I had in childhood but I know I did. I definitely went trick or treating. Those were the days when you could go far and wide and not be worried about being kidnapped or assaulted. We would be gone for hours without adult supervision but always in a big group. Oh, the stomaches we would get trying to eat all that candy. LOL
Great list of costumes. I’m sure I’ll see all these tomorrow night. I ‘m looking forward to it. My little one is going to be Bat girl. She’s so excited! Thanks for sharing.

I went trick or treating a few times as a kid, but I can’t recall any of the costumes. At one point, my son was such a Scooby Do fan that he insisted on being the little scary dog for three years straight. I was so glad when he grew out of that stage.

I always have trouble finding your blog. I’m going to a Halloween dance with a Grateful Dead cover band wearing a “dark star” costume.
I was usually a bum growing up – how’s that for imaginative? This year I think I’ll dress up as a bumble bee and my grandbaby will be a witch. I’ll have pictures up on Monday, be sure to check them out.
