Thirteen Things about World Kindness Day. Thursday, November 13 is World Kindness Day. This was the opening day of the first World Kindness Movement® conference held at Tokyo in 1998, and the 35th anniversary of the Small Kindness Movement of Japan, which brought the signatories of the ‘declaration of kindness’ of the World Kindness Movement together in 1997. CLICK HERE to learn more about World Kindness Day. Also, check out my Thursday Thirteen. In honor of World Kindness Day, my Thursday Thirteen is a list of ‘random acts of kindness.’
- Smile at someone you don’t know (okay but not a serial killer…lol).
- Hug Someone.
- Volunteer to work in a soup kitchen, shelter, to read to a child, whatever floats your boat…just volunteer to help someone else.
- Pay someone else’s toll or give them a subway token (Come on…I know folks in NYC can be nice too).
- Cook a meal for a friend or another family (better yet take a friend out to dinner…lol).
- Mail (via snail mail) “Just Because Cards” to several of your friends.
- Call an older family member or older friend just to say hi.
- Babysit for a young couple (who need a break from their kids, a night out, but they can’t afford to get out)
- Donate a toy (or two) to Toys or Tots or another children’s organization.
- Starbuck anyone? Okay Dunkin Donut or McDonalds, donate a cup of coffee to someone else.
- Grocery shop for a neighbor or friend or might be shut-in or an invalid.
- Give Someone Flowers
- Just Say Hi to those you come into contact with during the day!

Don’t forget to be kind to yourself. Great list, we should practice all year long. Happy T13!
Adelle Laudan´s last blog post..
Hey Adelle and thanks for that suggestion!
I am putting $101 in my younger sister’s bank account.
I drive a classmate to and from school every Thursday. She is coming from work and works two jobs, so she is tired. She’s also in her 50s.
I sometimes send extra lunches to my husband’s job for his co-workers.
I watch my husband’s co=worker’s 3 kids when he has no one else to watch them, for free.
I believe that’s all the good I have in me right now. I wish I could do more, but I can’t. One day…

Jennifer you’re doing a lot…what great ideas!
Put a quarter in someone’s parking meter so they won’t get a ticket.
Let someone with only two items get in front of you in the grocery store.
pick up your neighbors trash can after pick up
ON hot days, give a bottle of water to the mail carrier/garbage collectors.
Do errands for an elderly neighbor or relative or take them shopping (I do this one once a month with my great aunt and her friend)
Cilla I like all of these esp. that first one…another one is when there’s a lot of traffic…don’t be afraid to allow another car to merge.
I do the merge thing all the time. It only makes sense so traffic will flow better. I also do the grocery store thing.
One that I did over the summer when I was in NY was pay for ice cream for a little girl who only had enough money for one and she need two.

It sure does not say much for humankind if we need a to remind ourselves to have a human kindness day. This is something that should come from within each of us on a daily basis. If it does not then it is obviously we are just to selfish and self-center.

These are great suggestions, but it’s good to keep in mind that some people are too suspicious to take a random act of kindness well. Best to do these with people who know you mean well.

I didn’t realize today was World Kindness Day. We can all use a reminder to be kinder. I’ve found that if I consciously adopt a kind mindset, those random acts of kindness come naturally–it’s much harder when I’m focusing on my own irritations or hurry or whatever.

I didn’t realize it was Kindness Day…but I try to be kind every day. I find even on the days I don’t want to be bothered, it makes me feel better to smile/speak to a stranger.
