Weekend Assignment, APOOO Edition

With everything going on around us…sometimes we need to dream, hope, smile, smell the roses…even when it is not the weekend…who says we can’t do this little exercise on any day…so here goes…

In the midst of all this unsettling economic news, Karen is encouraging us to engage in some retail therapy in this Weekend Assignment.

Weekend Assignment #237: A long-lost relative dies and leaves you $10,000. But there’s a catch: the will states that it cannot be saved, invested, given to charity or used to pay bills. You’ve got a week to spend it all. (Anything left over will be used to buy tiny wheelchairs for injured pigeons.) What will you do with the dough?

Extra Credit: Excluding food and necessities, what is the most recent thing you’ve bought for yourself?

Share your thoughts with APOOO…what would you do if you were given $10,000 today?

My response:  I would spend it on a one-week getaway with just me and my husband to celebrate my 50th b-day and our 17th anniversary…currently we’re scheduled to go to Bermuda in the Spring…but if I received $10K today we would leave as soon as I could book the vacation. ;)

  1. I’d be on a plane to London. After touring all the Tudor things I can find, I’d hop over to Dublin to take a chance at meeting Bono. Then, I’d head to Rome to see the Vatican and all the beautiful artwork. Finally, I’d head to the Netherlands and tour the country of my ancestors. I wouldn’t stop until I had the exact amount I needed to fly back home.

  2. Great way to spend your $10K Literate Housewife…I’m still trying to figure out what I would do.

  3. Hands down I’d give it to my mom. And the most recent thing I’ve purchased for myself was a cute planner. Those types of things excite me…lol

    xoxo

  5. I am with Darnetta.. My mom wants to move to Alaska.. I would quickly accommodate her with a snow blower and if there was anything left, I would add an additional room the house for my library.

  6. A full day at the spa, no treatments spared, for myself, my mother, sister, sister-in-law, best friends and their mothers.

  7. The most recent thing I bought for myself was some Wendy’s. I don’t eat out much and was starving on my way to school last week Thursday.

I would take my family on a well needed all expense paid for vacation. We would not pack a thing. I would buy their clothes when we got where we was going. I would also file my citizenship papers.

  9. Easy! A tummy tuck. That mother of twins thing just never goes away no matter how much you run!

Anything left over… lazer out sun spots and acne scars from my face.

With all of that done… who knows? Maybe I’d get lucky and actually have sex again!

  10. I would replace the windows in my home, and buy a new back door, and front door.

  11. I have enough student loan and credit card debt that I could apply the 10k to.

The last thing I bought myself was a suit and a pair of slacks.

  12. Straight Vacation. Spain. Shopping Spree and hook my parents up with a gift or two. Aw..I love ‘what ifs’—I mean..it could happen, right? right? (smile)

  13. I’d share with my daughter, room mate and grands. I would by myself a car. Hoopty

  14. Let’s see, I would treat my mom, one of my aunts and cousins to a weekend getaway. We would do a trip, shop and spa and of course I need the camera that Ashton Kutcher has been advertising in the commercial to document the trip :)

The most recent thing I bought for myself was a new battery for my car. Does that count?

  15. I’d buy some furniture. My family room is begging for one of those big leather sectionals so my son’s can stretch out. When my two year old spills something I can just wipe it up instead of running for the Resolve like a crazy woman. I so hate microfiber. I’d put new carpet in that room, too. Okay, so I’ve got about $4,000 left. I’d join Jenny Craig and hire a personal trainer to get this fat off my you know what. It’s ridiculous. I’d get my hair done (new Kinky Twist) and buy some makeup and perfume. I’d buy my kids some clothes and do my Christmas shopping! Yes, please send this girl $10,000.

What have I done for me. Oh Lord, I can’t remember. Oh, yeah, I purchased two new bras a week ago. The kind that make your girls stand up. Too bad the only one looking at them is me, but hey, even I don’t want to look at sagging boobs.

  16. Most recent thing I bought myself was 2 books.

I would put the money down for a downpayment on a house.
    or

I would get a tummy tuck,a breast lift, remove the moles from my face……heal, go on vacation. one with the husband and the kids and one without.

  17. Last thing I bought myself was 2 bracelets and 2 necklaces.

Since you can’t invest the money, and putting towards buying a house would be an investment, I wouldn’t do anything.

I guess those tiny pigeons would get those wheelchairs they have been needing.

  18. yeah a house is an investment….Hmmm…well let’s see…I would have to say I would go shopping for me.

and give my kids some money to spend

  19. Sher your comments were hilarious and made me laugh…but I understand!

  22. Lashonda ain’t nothing wrong with spending the money on YOU…as women I believe that we need to think about pampering ourselves more rather than trying to take care of everybody else’s needs.

  23. At first I thought about taking a trip to some exotic place, But I would probably do lots of home improvements. Paint job, furniture, granite countertops, builtin bookshelves. With what ever is left, if there is anything,

Most recent thing I brought myself: a gray and black sweater from Parisians. In fact, got it on today!

  24. Jnette…want to see pictures of you in your sweater. ;)

  25. Travel someone where – would be an island with great spa facillities.

The last thing I bought myself is books

  26. I’m with Beverly. Fly me away.
