Counting Down the 10 Most Unique Churchs in the World.  This week APOOO presents The Borgund Stave Church which is the best preserved of Norway ‘s 28 extant stave churches. This wooden church, probably built in the end of the 12th century, has not changed structure or had a major reconstruction since the date it was built. The church is also featured as a Wonder for the Viking civilization in the video game Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings.

  5. Hmmmm. It’s very harsh looking. I wonder if the sermons were all fire and brimstone. The building doesn’t have a friendly appearance, not inviting at all.

  6. Wow! What an interesting structure. I would love to visit the church.

  7. A big honnor for Borgund to be on the list of the 10 most unique churches in the world. “Creepy” and “this is some mean-looking church” are comments we hear from time to time, but believe me – once you’ve experienced the atmosphere of Borgund and the fantastic nature of the Hisotric Route surrounding it you ‘ll change your opinion for sure!
Are you interested in the Viking age? There will be a new exhibition at Borgund next year showing archaelogical finds from a Viking Kaupang (Trade Centre) from the 9th Century which was discovered close to the church last winter
