APOOO wants to know if there are any View watchers up in here? The show–The View–with Elizabeth, Joy, Barbara Walters, Whoopi and Sherri. I just caught an excerpt from earlier today on Access Hollywood and want to know what happened on the show today.

Based upon what I saw…with chagrin…I am actually on Elizabeth’s side and lawd knows this is a FIRST. I do not think I have ever agreed with her before…lol. It sounds like they were discussing usage of the N-word and Elizabeth thought you should never use it because of the negativity associated with it and Whoopi…hmmm well I am not sure what Whoopi was saying…let me see if I can find a copy of the tape at YouTube.
Be Right Back. (BRB)
Okay saw footage from today’s show , CLICK HERE to view it. After seeing both videos, I side with Joy. Hehe.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
So, good peoples, I thought Jesse and company buried the N-word. Even tho’ I knew that word ‘would rise from the dead’–Why, oh why, was he caught muttering it in a mic while he was on Fox News? WTF?
After watching the videos…what do you think…did Elizabeth have reason to be upset?
Do you agree with Whoopi’s assessment? Why or why not?
Hmmm and can we talk about Sherri Jackson…the more I see of her on the show…I ‘on know…can someone please tell me what value she brings to the show?
SPEAK GOOD PEOPLES…

I lost my original message. But I don’t side with any of them. I saw the show and honestly they all sounded ridiculous. But nobody sounded worse than Sherri. She was an absolute idiot.
Hey Jennifer…the only part I saw why Joy commented was at the end. Did she comment earlier…
Hey Jennifer…okay looks like the site is freezing tonight on long posts…so for everyone who visits after this comment..please type your response in Word and then post it here. Sorry for the inconvenience and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hmmmmmm…..I’m not sure about this segment of which hostess made any sense…Sherri was definitely babbling to me…. but if we can’t get our own people to understand how are other races going to understand? But I do agree with Whoopi that the word carries alot of power because of the original reason it was used and now for a term of “endearment” to others. If we as a people can’t come together on this other folks can’t/won’t either.
Sharon–I guess other folks aren’t going to understand because hmmm I’m Black and don’t understand how it’s a term of endearment…for me it’s like saying b*t&h is a term of endearment…NOT.
From That1Girl:
The n-word should be eliminated altogether because it has gotten to the point in which it is way too confusing, and has way too many meanings:
1) SOME Black folks embrace it as a term of endearment
2) Some Blacks folks are offended by it
3) Some Black folks use it to demean other Black folks like Jesse Jackson
4) Hell, even white kids are using it on each other as a term of endearment
5) Of course, its still being use in its original form by white folks
Its too much and needs to be erased from our vocabulary. Period.
Although I understand the “logic” of people who claim to have taken it back and given it a new meaning, I have no use for the word in any of its manifestations, especially since too many people use it in a derogatory way – remember that old ditty ****ers and flies?” Besides, I don’t know any ****ers. And when people come up with that stretch of an explanation that it stands for a certain kind of behavior, not a particular race (i,e, white people can be ****ers too) it really does make me wanna holler. That word was designed to disparage and demean black people, not the rainbow coalition.
I forgot to add my take on the View conversation – Elizabeth Hasselback is the poster girl for “wrong and strong.” Her brain is on lockdown to any opinion other than her own.
Hey Niambi and thanks for stopping by…and yes Elizabeth is generally the poster child for ‘wrong and strong’…lol…but yesterday she made more sense to me than Sherri or Whoopi who BOTH actually bothered me with their statements…because if I was a regular viewer of the View, and white, I would believe that ALL Black folks use that word as a ‘
term of endearment’ and that is so NOT true. I do agree that word was designed to be demeaning and disparaging and that will never change and that being the case I will not use it.

Hi Niambi: I only watched the clip and I agree with Elizabeth more than any of them….and well, you and I have already synched (in another forum) on our views on Sherri. I so want her gone from the show. We need a well-read, well-informed, well-spoken sista to represent our voices and viewpoints — she’s soooo NOT it!
Just testing to see if this gravatar works.

I don’t watch the View. But all I know is that I was brought up to never never use that word. I was also brought up to never participate in discussions where people are telling racial jokes, making off color statements, or demeaning someone in any fashion. I excuse myself and leave the room. I don’t make a big deal of it. I just leave and go to another room etc. Laughing with someone and laughing about someone whether you know them or not or even if its about a general group of people for whatever reason is not funny. and is mean and spiteful and plain old nasty. Yes, it does eliminate and it does narrow my personal view point of humor. But whatever hurts my sensibility in regards to humanity tells me whats right and wrong for me.
yes, some people, white and black, have turned it into a word of endearment. But to me that us no excuse to use the word. call me old fashion. not in with the new times. But to me, I still say use of the word is still uncalled for in any situation.
Hey Mamie and thanks for stopping by…I hear you and feel you regarding the use of the word.
