November is Diabetes Awareness Month

My mom diedĀ five years ago due to complications of diabetes.

November is also her birth month.

If she were alive today she would be 70 years old on November 22nd.

PS…Okay this one wasn’t so wordless…it’s posted in memory of my mom and everyone who lost a family member due to diabetes or who is fighting diabetes personally.

  1. A cause near and dear to my heart. My Husband has diabetes. He was diagnosed 2 weeks before our first child was born. His has what is typically called Juvenille Diabetes(although it is not just children who get it). These people do not have a functioning pancreas and are dependent on Insulin shots for the rest of their life.

  2. Wow Lashonda…so sorry to hear that about your husband and pray that he is able to keep it under control.

  3. Yasmin, sorry to hear about your mom. I lost an aunt to diabetes. I was in high school and she was in her late 30s when she died.

  4. What a beautiful post. Sorry to hear about your mom. My first husband died from diabetes. Now in Arizona we have a very bad situation with diabetes they are labeling epidemic with the Mexican and especially Native American populations. I don’t think people who haven’t been exposed to it have any idea how hard it is to manage. Thank you for bringing it up and sharing your experience.

  5. Diabetes runs in my family on my dad’s side of the family. My dad has to take a shot of insulin every nght before bed. Within the last 2 years they said my mom has it too.
